This past weekend the Boston Red Sox swept the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. This was Boston’s second sweep of their rivals on the year and improved their season record against New York to 8-1. This three game series helped Boston create more separation in the standings against the Yankees as well as push them closer towards that third wild card spot.

In the first game of the series, the Red Sox jumped out to an early lead that would not be relinquished. Justin Turner started the scoring for Boston by driving in Alex Verdugo on a single. Masataka Yoshida would tack on to the early lead with a three run home run. Rafael Devers, Justin Turner, and Masataka Yoshida would hit RBI singles in the second to make it a 7-0 game. The Yankees would try to claw back throughout the middle innings as they made it a 7-3 ballgame. Devers would once again hit an RBI single that would extend Boston’s lead. Game one ended in an 8-3 win for the visitors. Brayan Bello got the win for the Sox after going six innings and only allowing one run.

Game two provided another one-sided game as the Yankees offense struggled against Kutter Crawford. The game was blown open with a grand slam in the second by Luis Urias. This early lead by Boston remained once again. Connor Wong went on to hit a solo home run in the fourth, making it a 5-0 Boston lead. Aaron Judge would try and help the Yankees muster a comeback, hitting a solo home run in the sixth and his second of the series. An RBI double by Pablo Reyes and a solo shot by Rafael Devers would cap off the scoring as the Red Sox would win it 8-1.

The final game of the series came down to the ninth inning as neither team could break away throughout the game. Devers stayed hot as he launched a solo shot in the first inning. Yankees’ Kyle Higashioka would hit a solo home run of his own to tie it. Yoshida’s forceout drove in Devers just for Gleyber Torres to tie it once again with another solo shot. A three run homer from Turner gave Boston a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning. Anthony Volpe would respond half an inning later with a three run blast of his own. Turner would once again break the tie in the top of the ninth with an RBI double, leading Boston to a 6-5 win and the sweep.
