An Analysis of the American League West
All stats are from 5/25/2022
Houston Astros:
The Astros are arguably the most controversial team in sports’ history. With the infamous sign-stealing scandal, only Astros fans want the Astros to lead the American League West. At the time this article was written, the Astros are on top of the AL West, with the Angels trailing behind. The Astros are currently at 28 wins and do not seem to be slowing down any time soon. The Astros have a healthy team with all of their dominant players on the field right now.
Los Angeles Angels:
Trailing behind the Astros are the Angels. Although the Angels were on top of the AL West for quite some time, their impressive start began to slow down once they lost steam. The Angels lost series to teams under .500 and were even swept by the Rangers. The Angels are at a steady 27 wins, right behind Houston’s 28. Taylor Ward, the Angels’ breakout star, is on the day-to-day injury report, which may be a factor in the Angels’ rough patch.
Texas Rangers:
Although the Rangers were able to sweep the Angels, they are at 18 wins, a significant drop from the Angels’ 28 wins. The Rangers lost their most recent series against the Astros. If the Rangers want a chance to become competitive in the AL West, they will have to continue to sweep teams like the Angels.
Seattle Mariners/Oakland Athletics:
Both of these teams are at 18 wins. Both of these teams look like they will be remaining at the bottom of the AL West.
