Marlins Make History for the Wrong Reasons

ST. LOUIS (PSF)β€”For many teams, this start to the MLB season has been either great or ok. For the Miami Marlins, however, it has become the stuff of horror stories, starting the season 0-9 and making history for the wrong reasons.

With this embarrassing start, the Marlins become the third team in the last 20 years to start off the MLB season winless in nine games. They join the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves, who both started off 0-9 in 2016. While also being the 14th time in MLB history a team started off with such a record.

In nine games, the Marlins have allowed 62 runs this season and only one of their losses were by one run.

To start off the year, the Marlins got swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates in a four-game series. The worst of those contests were on March 29 and March 30 where the Marlins lost 7-2 and 9-3 respectively. This was also the first time the Pirates swept the Marlins since 2015.

Then the Marlins were swept by the Los Angeles Angels, ending off the three-game series with a 10-2 loss. Just today, the Marlins lost again, this time to the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1.

If the Marlins lose tomorrow to the Cardinals, they will be the first team to start off the year 0-10 since the 2002 Detroit Tigers.

This has been the worst possible scenario for the Marlins. Murphy’s Law has kicked in, what can go wrong for the Marlins, has gone wrong in every single way. Few fans expected this kind of start after the Marlins were in the National League wild card just this past postseason against the Philadelphia Phillies, where they were swept in two games.
