Orioles Defeat Yankees 14-1 in blowout
Division rivals Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees faced off on Thursday, July 6th in New York. Playing in Yankee Stadium didn’t seem to phase Baltimore as they put up 14 runs on 20 hits, propelling them to a decisive 14-1 victory.
The Orioles put on an offensive clinic against the Yankees with 10 players collecting hits. This all-around team effort was highlighted by rookie Gunnar Henderson and his four hit night. Henderson started the scoring for Baltimore in the first when he hit a solo shot off of Luis Severino. Henderson would homer again in the fourth inning, giving him a five RBI game.
Baltimore’s Ryan O’Hearn also had himself a night at the dish, collecting three hits and four RBIs. The Birds had six different players drive in a run in their dominant victory. The third and fourth innings were where most of the damage took place as Baltimore scored seven runs in the third and five in the fourth.
Baltimore’s pitching was just as dominant. Orioles’ starter Kyle Bradish got the win after a six inning outing. Bradish allowed only three hits and ended with zero earned runs. Nick Vespi continued the shutout for the away team when he pitched two innings in relief. The Yankees eventually cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth but it was only for one run. The Orioles showed why they hold the second best record in the American League as the entire team came together in what was a statement win.
