Baseball fans waited a long time for the 2022 regular season to start as this weekend marked the beginning of great moments which will occur throughout the six-month span.

AL EAST

The AL East saw incredible games this past weekend from the Blue Jays, Red Sox, and Yankees who will be fighting for the top spot in the division. However, the biggest comeback of the weekend belonged to the Toronto Blue Jays coming back from a seven-run deficit beating the Texas Rangers in the first home opener in three years. It’s only fitting the Jays mounted the comeback through their top tier lineup with Teoscar Hernández tying the game with a three-run homer.

Bobby Witt Jr. who was the number #1 prospect in baseball according to MLB.com, made his debut on Opening Day against the Guardians. Witt Jr. came through getting his first MLB hit and driving the go-ahead run in the eighth inning leading Kansas City to the win.

As if that wasn’t enough for Witt Jr. stealing the show again arguably making a play of the year contender at third base saving a run from scoring in extra innings.

AL WEST

AL WEST

The obvious choice from the AL West saw Houston Astros shortstop, Jeremy Peña, hitting his first career home run on Friday against the Angels. The biggest part of the moment besides the feat itself is the reaction from Peña’s parents being interviewed during “Friday Night Baseball” on Apple TV+ while the home run was hit.

This was the feelgood sports moment of the weekend as Peña ranked No.71 in Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects and the number one prospect for the Astros.

If one were to write the opposite article highlighting the ugliest moments of the first four days of baseball the Mets and Nationals would find themselves on there. A series marked with four Mets hitters hit by a pitch, the benches clearing, and frightening scenes including Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso getting hit in the head. However, the Mets would have the last laugh with Pete Alonso hitting a grand slam to left field shushing the Washington crowd while rounding the bases.

Make a Cubs fan smile with two words: Seiya Suzuki

The Japanese sensation belted his first career home run in the majors to left center field on Sunday. Unfortunately for Cub fans, the Cubs would lose the game to the Brewers but on the bright side, Suzuki proved his power on the field. Upon the Cubs signing, Suzuki famously showed his love for Mike Trout and is sure hitting like him.

P.S.

He brought Japanese snacks for the Cubs he does it all!

Only in baseball does something this bizarre occur. Arizona Diamondback Seth Beer hits a walk off home run on national beer day. It was Seth’s 13 career at-bat!

The Diamondbacks celebrated giving away free beers this past Friday. Hollywood couldn’t come up with this.
