Near No-No For Hendricks

Kyle Hendricks could be seen shaking hands and his head after returning to the dugout after completing eight innings of work against the San Fransisco Giants. Being the last member of the 2016 World Series Cubs, Hendricks returned to prime form once again, coming within four outs of a no-hitter before allowing a double to Mitch Haniger off the left-center field wall.

Playing to his strengths, he induced 13 ground-ball outs to six flyouts and three strikeouts, with only the double and a walk standing in front of a perfect outing.

The defense had its moment to shine in the form of Mike Tauchman. Tauchman made an all-out catch to preserve the no-hit bid in the third against Brandon Crawford.

For Hendricks, his last bid for a no-hitter came against the St. Louis Cardinals on September 12, 2016. He took the bid into the ninth before Jeremy Hazelbaker broke it up with a leadoff home run. Hendricks is now 1-2 on the season with a 3.09 ERA.

The two teams will finish their series with a 3:05 CST start in the Bay tomorrow afternoon.
