Monster Series by Polar Pete

Coming off getting swept in Baltimore the Mets looked to bounce back in a 3-game home stand against the Chicago Cubs. They did just that, winning the first and last game of the three-game set. Pete Alonso was the anchor of the Mets offense which was a great sign to see amid his struggles coming back from injury and post All Star break. In the first game of the three game set Pete went 3-4 with 2 homeruns, 6 runs batted in, and two 2 runs scored in an 11 to 2 victory. The following game he followed that with a 1-4 performance with a homerun and two runs batted in, in a 3-2 loss. In the final game of the series the Polar Bear went 1-2 with a homerun, 2 runs batted in, two walks, and a stolen base in a 4-3 win.

To recap, in this series Pete slashed .500, with 4 runs scored, 10 runs batted in, and belted 4 homeruns. Also, in this series Alonso launched his 35th homer of the season putting him second behind Matt Olson of the Atlanta Braves. Pete now has 15 homers and 34 RBIs in 27 career games against the Cubs. With his 35th homerun of the season He has joined Albert Pujols, Eddie Mathews and Ralph Kiner as the only players in the MLB history with at least 35 HRs in four of their first five seasons in the majors. He looks to stay hot against Atlanta as they come flushing for a 4-game set.
