MLB Releases 2023 Schedule
For the first time in MLB history, all 30 clubs will face one another next season. Opening day will take place on March 30, with all 30 teams in action. The 2023 All-Star Game will be in T-Mobile Park in Seattle on July 11.
The more balanced schedule was an outcry from fans and critics to combat the number of division games within a season. Previously, teams played 76 divisional games making up 46 percent of the regular season.
According to CBS Sports, the new format will cut divisional games to 52. The remaining schedule consists of 66 intraleague games and 46 interleague games. In addition, MLB will introduce eight games, four at home and four games away, between geographical interleague rivals like the Yankees vs. Mets, Cubs vs. White Sox, etc.
The format will showcase new matchups between teams who haven’t played one another in years. For example, the Yankees kick off the 2023 season against the San Fransisco Giants, making it the first time these clubs will face one another in seven years.
Additionally, the Bronx Bombers will play against the Dodgers in June for the first time in four years. Every team will play on the Fourth of July as the Cincinnati Reds will head to the nation’s capital to square off against the Nationals.
All 30 clubs will play on Roberto Clemente Day on September 15 and Lou Gehrig’s Day. The final day of the regular season will be on October 1.
