On Wednesday afternoon, Tom Cosgrove, a pitcher for Triple-A El Paso, received the news that any minor leaguer awaits to hear. After about six years, the left hander was officially called up to the major leagues, joining the San Diego Padres 40-man roster.

Cosgrove, from Staten Island, NY, spent three years pitching for Manhattan College in Riverdale, Bronx. During his time at Manhattan College, the former Jasper, was considered “One of the most dominating pitchers in the MAAC” during his junior season according to gojaspers.com . Cosgrove led the Jaspers as he was additionally nationally ranked as 48th having 105 strikeouts during that point in his career.

During the 2017 MLB Draft, Cosgrove was picked in the 12th round by the Padres organization. In the 2023 season with El Paso, Cosgrove has had seven appearances with the minor league team. Within the short amount of time, the Manhattan alum has made strides, having seven strike outs and only five baserunners.

Cosgrove’s call up was done just ahead of the Padre’s game against the Chicago Cubs. Cosgrove will join the Padres bullpen along side other southpaw pitchers, Josh Hader, Tim Hill and Ray Kerr. Cosgrove will make his debut in the big leagues when he appears in his first game with the Padres. It will be exciting to see where the former Jasper’s career takes him and if we will see him on the big league field anytime soon.
