In the seventh Lars Nootbaar, in his first game back since being activated from the injured list, drew a two-out walk that setup RBI singles from Nolan Arenado and Wilson Contreras, allowing the Cardinals to stay ahead of Washington Nationals in an 8-6 victory.

It was the second time this year that Nootbaar had been sidelined due to injury. The first was after Opening day when he had a left thumb contusion diving into a base. This time it was due to back spasms that occurred when he slammed into a wall making a catch.

On the year, Nootbaar is hitting .266 with four home runs and 21 RBIs.

If the Cardinals look to do anything this year, it has to be with The Baar’s bat, and much was left to be desired. Outside the walk, he struck out twice and lined into a double play.

However, it looks positive from here on out. Right before being activated he had a four-hit, 2 home-run performance with the Memphis Redbirds, and while the linescore for his first game back with not be pretty, his walk set up two scoring opportunities.

The problem now is playing time. They have Dylan Carlson, Jordan Walker, Alec Burleson, Oscar Mercado, and Tommy Edman in the outfield. All vying for playing time in a contentious time for the Cardinals. They will be looking for anyone and everyone who can hit a ball to stay in the lineup. Hopefully, for the two-year veteran, he can find a way to get back to form and be productive for his waning team.
