J.D. Martinez: The ‘JD’ Stands for ‘Just Dingers’
After a dominant performance from Clayton Kershaw in game one against the New York Yankees on Friday, the Los Angeles Dodgers would go on to drop the last two games against the opposing heavyweight from the Bronx.
Although it stings to drop one of the most advertised and hyped-up series of the season, there are plenty of silver linings the Dodgers can see ahead. The biggest of these positives is their newest designated hitter, J.D Martinez. Martinez homered in two of the three games against New York and he keeps heating up now with 9 home runs in his last 20 hits.
With now 15 total blasts on the season, the DH position looks to be Martinez’s to keep on a Dodgers roster full of new faces, young and old, like former Chicago Cub Jason Heyward and rookie sensation James Outman.
Martinez contributes to the Dodgers by bringing out a winning and championship presence. He is no stranger to dominance and being at the top having won the 2018 World Series with the Boston Red Sox against his current team. The Dodgers have their share of tough battles ahead before another trip to the postseason is comfortably in sight.
Currently tied for first with the Arizona Diamondbacks, perhaps a player like Martinez is exactly what the most consistent contender in the NL West needs to reclaim their spot at the top.
