International Games, Subway Series Highlight Mets’ 2024 Schedule

While the 2023 Major League Baseball season is in full swing, it’s never too early to look ahead to next season. All 30 team released their 2024 schedules on Thursday, allowing fans to look ahead to next season’s big games.

For the New York Mets, that anticipation is no exception. While their 2023 has been a disappointment with underperformance across the board, the hope is to wipe the slate clean with a bounce-back year in 2024. With next Opening Day still well over eight months away, here are some highlights of next year’s calendar.

Opening Week:

The Mets will begin their 2024 campaign at Citi Field against the Milwaukee Brewers on March 28, their only home opener appearance across all 30 teams. The teams will play two more games on March 30 and 31 before the Detroit Tigers come to town for three games. The Mets conclude the first week of games in Cincinnati for three games against the Reds. With the Mets looking to start the season strong, their first three opponents will be non-divisional opponents, including a rare visit from an AL Central foe.

Division Rivals:

With MLB now scheduling all 30 teams to play each other, the divisional matchups are less frequent for the Mets, especially early. Their only divisional matchup comes against the Atlanta Braves in mid-April, but they consistently appear every month. The Mets will play nothing but divisional opponents for 10 straight games in mid-May, hosting the Braves for three games, playing a home-and-home set of four games against the Phillies, and visiting the Marlins.

June features series’ against the Marlins and Phillies, but July is also a heavier divisional month. The Mets face the Nationals seven times between New York and Washington, and play the Braves and Marlins four times at home and on the road, respectively. August only features three with the Marlins, but the homestretch features nearly two weeks of divisional games. The stretch features seven games against the Phillies, three at home with Washington, and two on the road at Truist Park. As a result, divisional matchups will come and go throughout 2024, with various stretches with nothing but NL East opponents and droughts.

Other Marquee events

The Mets will have a handful of games circled on their calendars next season, due to notable MLB events and other rivalries. The June 8 & 9 series with the Phillies is a part of MLB’s World Tour, featuring a stop in London. Each team will get a home game in the series as the Mets and Phillies make their first appearances across the pond at London Stadium.

The Mets will reignite the Subway Series with the Yankees twice next Summer, with the two teams facing off in June and July. The Mets will host the Bombers on June 25 and 26 while they visit Yankee Stadium on July 23 and 24. As a result, the Mets will take the big stage quite a bit, ranging from New York City bragging rights to the London Series.

Interleague Play

Along with the Subway Series comes their interleague slate across the American League. The Mets will host the Royals, Tigers, Orioles, Athletics, Astros, and Red Sox at Citi Field this season, along with the Twins for the first time since the Carlos Correa saga. The Mets will visit the likes of the Blue Jays, Guardians, Mariners, Rays, Angels and White Sox. The Mets will also make their Globe Life Field debut against the Texas Rangers from June 17-19.

The Mets, ironically, end their season with the same team they start it against: Milwaukee. With three games from September 27-29, the Mets will conclude their season at American Family Field in their only visit.

With the 2024 season approaching, we now know what the Mets’ road to bouncing back looks like. With various big name matchups and events, the season looks to be fun on paper for the Mets, but it all hangs on what the rest of the 2023 season and beyond brings. For now though, plan your calendars accordingly.
