Biggest Trades in the AL Central

With the Trade Deadline recently passed, the AL Central had a ton of the spotlight. The primary candidates to sell; Tigers, White Sox, and Royals all made moves but surprisingly so did the Guardians. The division leading Twins decide to stay put and not buy.

Tigers Trade RHP Michael Lorenzen to the Phillies for INF Hao-Yu Lee (#5 PIT prospect)

The lone All-Star representative for the Detroit Tigers, Lorenzen was one of the more prized starting pitchers available. On the year, he’s posted a 3.48 ERA across 113.2 innings of work. In his 1st start with the Phillies, he would toss eight innings of 2-run baseball against the Marlins. He displayed excellent command with allowing just one walk and 72 strikes thrown out of 101 pitches. Lorenzen’s next start will come against the Nationals on Wednesday, August 9th.

White Sox trade INF Jake Burger to the Marlins for LHP Jake Eder (#4 MIA Prospect)

One of the more surprising trades made, Miami is getting another right-handed power bat to aid their slumping offense. Luis Arraez and Jorge Soler have provided most of the offense this season so Burger’s production will be a huge boost. The slugger has hit 26 home runs with 54 RBI’s this season with his 1st coming on Saturday’s 8-9 loss to the Rangers.

Guardians trade RHP Aaron Civale to the Rays for 1B Kyle Manzardo (#37 MLB Prospect)

With major injuries to starters Drew Rasmussen, Geffrey Springs, and Shane McClanahan, Tampa needed to bolster their starting rotation. Civale is having the best season of his career, posting a 2.55 ERA across 81 innings. He has an impressive 2.4 BB/9 and WHIP of 1.09. Primarily a groundball pitcher, Civale utilizes his pitch location and movement to get outs.
