After a series with the Boston Red Sox that could only be described as ‘embarrassing’ left the Yankees looking broken and tired, one could’ve assumed the struggles would’ve continued on the road across the country in Seattle. However the past two games have served as pleasant surprises for this Yankees team and its fans as they have secured back to back wins and are looking to close out the series sweep here on Thursday in Seattle. They haven’t been the flashiest of victories with scores of 3-1 and 4-2, but they have been games in which the Yankees have shown some resilience and shown that it can produce offense without the bat of Judge which has been a question mark all year. It has also shown efficient pitching with a competent defense that could play behind the pitching on their off days. 

Wednesday’s game was particularly interesting as the young Yankees were the ones who stepped up at the plate. Not so far removed Minor League guys, Jake Bauers and Billy Mckinney, went yard for the Yankees in the third and fourth inning respectively. Rookie Anthony Volpe then tacked on an insurance run for the Yankees with his own home run (10) in the eighth. Bauers ended with the best day at the plate finishing with a HR, 2 RBI’s, as well as a run scored. Jhony Brito had a more than solid day on the bump for New York who went five and two-thirds while only allowing two hits and zero earned runs while finishing with three strikeouts. This should be a great starting point as it was his first start back from Scranton, the Yankees Triple-A franchise. The Yankees now turn their attention to tomorrow where they will look to get a much needed June sweep. 

Looking at a quick preview of game three of the series Bryan Woo will get the start for the Mariners. Woo is a rookie with a record of 0-1 with the Mariners thus far and an ERA of 7.3. For the Yankees, the Mariners will get a dose of Domingo German getting his 13th start this year with a record of 4-4. German has had a successful year so far and looks to extend that tomorrow and has a solid ERA of 4.3. Offensively, we should continue to acknowledge the improvement of Anthony Volpe at the plate who has made adjustments during the Subway Series and continues to improve since that point. This improvement is coming at a critical time considering Volpe was under scrutiny for his offensive performance and was in the lineup of a Yankees team that was in desperate need of Offense.
