Future Star: Francisco Alvarez

So far this year the MLB has been taken storm incredibly talented rookie superstars. The 2023 All Star weekend featured two newcomers in the starting lineup for the first time in history. They were Josh Jung, Third Basemen of the Texas Rangers and Corbin Carroll, Outfielder of the Arizona Diamondbacks. One rookie that I feel is not getting the flowers he deserves is Francisco Alvarez.

Being the #1 prospect in the organization they had extremely high hopes for him going into the year. In another disappointing season for the NY Mets Alvarez has been one of the very few bright spots on the ball club. His season splits currently sit at 19 HR and 41 RBI with .238/.298/.809. Francisco ranks 1st amongst qualified rookie catchers in the NL in runs scored, homeruns, SLG, and OPS. His 19 homeruns are tied for 1st amongst all rookies in the National League with Corbin Carroll. Furthermore, Statcast has ranked Francisco Alvarez 2nd among all catchers in the MLB with 8.6 Brls/PA% and 2nd highest exit velocity. The Mets certainly have their backstop figured out for years to come and it is only a matter of time before he makes the leap to All Star.
