Red Sox’s Alex Cora receives ONE first place vote for AL Manager of the year

Following the shortened 2020 MLB season, the Boston Red Sox finished 24-36 which landed them in last place in the competitive AL East standings along with the 3rd worst record in the AL that year. Months after trading homegrown superstar Mookie Betts, the Red Sox felt the impact immensely.

After a lack luster performance in 2020, there were not very high expectations for the Red Sox going into the 2021 season. Manager Alex Cora had been resigned after being suspended for the duration of the 2020 season due to sign stealing with the Houston Astros during the 2017 season. They also acquired Alex Verduo, Hunter Renfroe, Garrett Whitlock, and Adam Ottavino who all ended up being key pieces to the 2021 Red Sox team.

Despite coming in last place in 2020, the Boston Red Sox overcame all the odds and came in second place in the 2021 season and even made the playoffs. They started by defeating the New York Yank**s in the wildcard game held at Fenway Park and then beat the first place, Tampa Bay Rays in 4 games putting up 26(!!!) runs throughout the series.

Their next series brought the challenge of the Houston Astros. They lost to the Astros in 6 games but set the record for most grand slams in a playoff series with 3.

Even though he brought the Red Sox back from the dead, manager Alex Cora only received ONE first place vote for AL manager of the year. Manager of the Tampa Bay Rays, Kevin Cash, won the vote and became the first manager to win back to back AL manager of the year awards. I’m not saying that he did not deserve this years award because he led the Rays to the best record in the American League this year as well as last year. Congratulations to Kevin Cash but I feel Alex Cora was robbed of this award this year. But maybe I’m a little biased, Go Sox.
