As the 2023 baseball season is right around the corner, the Major League Baseball teams are gearing up for their spring training in either Arizona, home of the Cactus League or in sunny Florida where the Grapefruit League is held. We can always expect some new, exciting changes to each season including rule changes, trades, and some new prospective players. A well known team that everyone always has their eyes on is the New York Yankees. This week the Yankees have invited the MLB’s top two prospects, one of them being Jason Domínguez.

Domínguez, also known by the nickname ‘El Marciano’ or ‘The Martian’ is a 20 year old, centerfielder from Esperanza, Dominican Republic. Before even beginning his minor league baseball career, Domínguez was already considered the 32nd prospect as well as being the top eligible prospect in 2019-2020 international group to sign with a team in the major leagues. In addition, back in 2020, when Domínguez was just 17-years-old, he was considered the youngest player out of the 100 top prospects. When Domínguez began his minor league career he was first introduced to the Florida Complex League Yankees in 2021. Since then has climbed his way up to the Somerset Patriots eventually leading him to being invited to the Yankees 2023 spring training. It is evident that Domínguez has a special talent, various baseball sources rave about the player that this young man is, “Teen phenom ready to debut with ‘otherworldly’ expectations,” stated from milb.com.

It will be interesting to see what’s to come from Domínguez and his dynamic with the team over the next few weeks in Florida; along side other top prospect, Anthony Volpe, a 21-year-old short stop from Watchung, NJ. All eyes will be on Domínguez during this spring training, hopefully he is able to live up to the hype. Will we see El Marciano wearing the blue and white pinstripes on opening day?
