According to multiple reports, former Miami Marlins right-handed relief pitcher Dylan Floro has signed a one-year contract with division foe Washington Nationals. The deal is worth $2.25 million as the Nationals look to bolster a bullpen that struggled mightily last season.

Floro is now eight seasons into his MLB career and has already pitched for six different teams. Floro has had his ups and downs throughout his career as he had an ERA of 4.24 in 2019 while on the Los Angeles Dodgers. This was following his best year of his career in 2018 when he pitched for both the Reds and Dodgers. During the 2018 season, Floro pitched in 54 games and had an ERA of 2.25. With the inconsistency that comes with most relief pitchers, it comes as no surprise that Floro has had a mixed bag of results.

Looking at his career Floro has an ERA of 3.42 in 334 innings pitched. Heโ€™s also allowed 335 hits, 105 walks, and 127 earned runs. On the other hand, he has struck out 307 batters and recorded 32 saves in the 48 opportunities he was given. Now when it comes to last season, Floro played for two different teams the Miami Marlins and the Minnesota Twins. This was Floroโ€™s worst full season of his career. In 2023, Floro posted an ERA of 4.76 and a WHIP of 1.54, while opposing hitters slashed a staggering .308 against Floro.

Even with a career-worst in 2023 for Floro, the Nationals bullpen wasnโ€™t any better. Last season the Nationals bullpen posted an ERA of 5.02, allowed 612 hits, and 334 earned runs. A big reason for all the runs was the long ball. The Nationals bullpen gave up a league-worst 94 home runs, six higher than the second-worst Angels who gave up 88. On top of the home runs, the Nationals also had the least number of strikeouts as they only struck out 523 batters. To put this in perspective, the second lowest was the Texas Rangers at 557.

In the end, if Floro is able to return to his 2020-2022 self, he will be a massive boost to a Nationalsโ€™ bullpen that requires much-needed depth after their top two relievers Kyle Finnegan and Hunter Harvey.
