Comeback Start: David Peterson
Coming into this game against the Brewers on June 27th the Mets are struggling badly, only attaining two wins in their last nine games and 5 in their last twenty-one games. Peterson, who was a first-round draft pick for the NY Mets back in 2017 out of the University of Oregon was looking to help the Mets and have a bounce back start. So far this season Peterson has accumulated a 1-6 record with an 8.08 ERA and .329 opponent AVG. Peterson was called back up after going 1-1 with a 4.5 ERA at Triple-A Syracuse Mets. David was locked in as he went six scoreless innings striking out five, allowing five hits, walking three, and lead the mets to a 7-0 victory. This is the only the second time where David went six innings or more this season and the Mets are 22-3 when their pitchers do so.
His record now sits at 2-6 and dropped his ERA to 7.00 on the dot. He looks to build on this start and go out and accumulate consecutive good starts to give himself a chance to stay in the big leagues. The Mets have shown trust in David and hope he turns into the first rounder he is supposed to be as his manager Buck Showalter said “everybody likes to feel good about themselves, we all know what Pete is capable of. We saw it in the past and I saw it last year a little bit and a little bit this year. We need him… everybody down in Triple-A to be that important depth. So, you hope this is a springboard to do what he is capable of doing.” The Metropolitans and David look to make a run as they sit 8.5 GB in the NL Wild Card spot.
