The Cardinals were able to salvage a win against the Miami Marlins Thursday night in Miami.

Jack Flaherty took the bump for the ailing Cardinals, needing to have a long start similar to his outing against the Yankees back on July 1st. Flaherty grinded through the first five innings, allowing the lead-off batter to reach in all but one of them. Yet, his defense came to the rescue, Nolan Arenado started a double play on Jorge Soler in the 3rd, and Dylan Carlson made a running catch to rob Joey Wendle of an extra base and RBI. Flaherty got a 1-2-3 inning in the sixth, allowing Cardinals Manager Oli Marmol to send him back out for the seventh where he got two outs, but after two hits and a walk, he was replaced with Chris Statton, who quickly got a ground ball out of Jesus Sanchez.

From there it was all the Cardinals bullpen who were perfect through the last seven batters to secure the win. On the offense side, Nolan Arenado hit another home run in the sixth.

Alec Burleson got an RBI single in the seventh and Nolan Gorman got a sac-fly in the eighth to make the final score 3-0.

Luis Arraez got three hits in the contest, putting him back at a .388 Average

It puts their record at 36-51, fifth in the division, and puts the Marlins at 51-38, good for second.
