Cardinals Fall To Giants In Sweep
The Giants take the reins against the Cardinals, finishing off a three-game sweep against the reigning NL Central division winners, continuing their downward spiral of a season.
After the Giants grabbed two runs in the top of the first, Tommy Edman took Anthony DeScalfani deep with a grand slam in the second inning.
Jordan Walker delivered an RBI single the following inning, continuing his decent rookie season, though that was all they could muster within 11 attempts with runners in scoring position.
With the lead trimmed to two, they looked to Giovanny Gallegos to secure the win, however Mike Yaztrzemski had other ideas and hit a game-tying 2-run homer forcing the game to extras where they eventually won by a score of 8-5.
Jordan Montgomery delivered a quality start for the Cardinals going into the seventh, allowing three runs scattered amongst seven hits and seven strikeouts. His record is now 3-7 with a 3.91 ERA.
Cardinals now fall to 27-42, fifth in the NL Central division with the Giants at 36-32, 3rd in their division respectively.
