Call on the Winn - Masyn Winn Called up

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

An hour after the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the New York Mets, 4-2. It was announced that Lars Nootbaar would be placed on the 10-day injured list and in his place would be the Cardinals hard-throwing prospect, Masyn Winn.

The shortstop has been on the rope for promotion ever since the beginning of the season, and after injuries to Nolan Gorman and Lars Nootbaar, there was no choice but to give the top prospect a cup of coffee in the Big Leagues.

Winn was selected in the 2nd round of the MLB draft in 2021 and has quickly risen through the ranks, finding himself as the Cardinals’ possible anchor at shortstop. He famously showed off his right arm in the 2022 Futures Game in Los Angeles, breaking at the time the fastest putout, at 100.5 MPH.

Being no slouch at the plate, Winn has hit .288 at Triple-A Memphis in 105 games, with an On Base Percentage of .359 and OPS of .833. He carries a career-high of 18 home runs and 99 runs scored on the plane ride to St. Louis, as the Cardinals will face the Mets in the second game of a three-game set.

Congratulations to Masyn Winn on his call-up to The Show.
