Bryce Harper Named NL MVP

KYLE ROSS - USA TODAY

Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Bryce Harper has been named the 2021 National League Most Valuable Player.

Hall of Famer and 3-time MVP for the Phillies, Mike Schmidt, announced Harper as the recipient.

From no All-Star selection in 2021 to the National League’s MVP, Harper put on a show for fans in the City of Brotherly Love.

Through 141 games, Harper hit .309 and drove in 35 home runs. He collected 100 walks and led all of Major League Baseball with 42 doubles.

Harper became one of four players in MLB history to reach at least 100 runs, 40 doubles, 35 home runs and 100 walks in a season. The rest of the list includes Babe Ruth (2x), Barry Bonds and Stan Musial.

Harper also led baseball in SLG at .615, OPS at 1.044 and OPS+ at 179.

To go along with his second career NL MVP nod, Harper won the Hank Aaron Award and was named a Silver Slugger this season.

“He’s a superstar,” said Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Angels in an MLBPA video. Ohtani was named the 2021 American League MVP.

In just his third season in a Phillies uniform, Harper has accumulated some serious hardware. He’ll look to continue his tear into 2022 as the Phillies attempt to compete for a postseason spot.
