It is that time of year when fans come out in stride to place picks on their favorite players to be represented in the annual All-Star game. On June 12, MLB released the first update to the standings as to who has the lead at their respective positions. It might be interesting to see where players of the Milwaukee Brewers are placing versus the current vote leader. Two hitters are of note, out of the four placing players.

Outside chance - William Contreras

William Contreras has dipped in his production at the plate as on the year, he is batting .239 with eight home runs, and 30 RBIs, with a decent on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .750, putting him 91st of qualifying active players, however, this has only gotten him around 58,000 votes from the fans, putting him eighth overall. Yet, it was the man he was traded for Sean Murphy, who has the lead with over 603,000 votes. Murphy has hit 12 home runs with 42 RBIS and an OPS of .903, putting him ninth overall of all active players. So from that instance, the right man is pulling for the starting job for the National League.

Best Chance - Rowdy Tellez

Rowdy Tellez also finds himself getting votes for the starting first-baseman role in the National League. Though, unlike his catching teammate, his production has remained consistent. He has a .231 batting average, with 12 home runs and 29 RBIs with an OPS of .737, placing him 93rd amongst active players. This has gotten Tellez to sixth place in the voting with 65,000 votes. However, he is far behind the first-place vote-getter in Freddie Freeman. Freeman is having another career year thus far. 13 home runs, 44 RBIs, with an average of .331 and .982 OPS, placing him fourth amongst active players. As of now, he has over 775,500 votes, second best in the National League, and far deserving of the opening role in Seattle.

On the Bubble - Brian Anderson and Willy Adames

The last two are grouped together as they both are tenth in their respective positions.

Brian Anderson is hitting .231 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs with an OPS of .727 tied for 102nd amongst active players, getting him under 39,000 votes, in comparison to Nolan Arenado’s 410,000. Arenado is hitting .283 with 13 home runs and 45 RBIs with an OPS of .819 putting him 43rd amongst active players.

Willy Adames is far from his productive abilities, hitting a career-low .204 but does have 10 home runs and 28 RBIs with an OPS of .658, 143rd amongst active players. This has resulted in over 68,000 votes, the most out of any Brewers hitters. However, it is Orlando Arcia of the Braves that has received the most votes with 406,500 votes. Arcia is hitting a career-best .331 with only five home runs and 23 RBIs, less than Adames, but makes up for it in OPS with a staggering .843, putting him 23rd with Nolan Gorman of the Cardinals.

Player that should be getting votes - Christian Yelich

While Christian Yelich has not been his 2018 MVP self these last few years, there are hints that Yelich is starting a comeback. He has a .269 average, nine home runs, and 30 RBIs, with a .791 OPS, good for 65th overall. He is even 16 and 2 in stolen base attempts. He is a player that should at least be in the conversation for votes, yet he is nowhere to be found.
