The New York Mets continued to ship off some of their pieces as Mark Canha was sent to Milwaukee on Monday. The veteran outfielder looks to help boost a lineup that has struggled throughout the season. Currently the Brewers’ offense ranks 24th in the majors in runs per game with 4.15 and are 22nd in home runs per game at 1.05. So far this season, Canha has a 0.245 batting average with an on base percentage of 0.343. He also has a 1.5 war and has the ability to play multiple outfield spots along with first base. In return, Milwaukee sent minor leaguer Justin Jarvis back to the Mets. It is expected that the Mets will cover his salary this year, but Canha does have a club option for 2024 that the Brewers will have to deal with. 

After Saturday’s blockbuster that sent Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers, it was only a matter of time before we saw more Mets involved in trades to contenders in what has been a surprisingly disappointing season for the New York Mets. Rumors continue to surface surrounding Justin Verlander and his future in New York with the Orioles, Dodgers, and Astros all having shown interest in the future hall of famer. 

The Brewers enter Tuesday on a four game losing streak and one and a half games out of first place in the NL Central. They are tied for the last wild card spot with two teams exceeding expectations in the Miami Marlins and Arizona Diamondbacks. However, the national league playoffs remain crowded with the Cubs and San Diego Padres opting not to be sellers at the deadline as of now. Milwaukee will look to get back on track with Freddy Peralta on the mound against the Nationals in Washington D.C. After that, they have a short homestand versus the Pirates and Rockies which are very winnable series.
