Game Recap: Angels vs. Rangers

After the Rangers swept the Angels in their last series, the Angels made a comeback this series. From the bullpen to the batter’s box, the Angels played an impressive game Tuesday night.

After Noah Syndergaard’s disastrous start against the Rangers last series, he took it upon himself to make it up to his team. Out of the eight innings Syndergaard pitched, he only gave up one run, struck out 5 with no walks. A completely different start from his last game against the Rangers, where he gave up six runs in an inning.

Although the bats were quite the first three innings, the Angels made a grand display in the bottom of the fourth. After starting the inning with a double by Jared Walsh and a single to left by Matt Duffy, the Angels were able to string some productive at bats together and score four runs with a ground out, infield single to the pitcher, a throwing error by the shortstop, ground rule double, bunt single, and a sacrifice fly to left. Andrew Valezquez hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Max Stassi who doubled earlier in the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth Walsh went yard, blasting a 383 foot bomb to right field, scoring the Angels’ last run of the night.

The Rangers were unable to get to Syndergaard until the eighth inning with a leadoff homerun by Jonah Heim. Syndergaard then finished off the inning by retiring the next three batters on ground-outs.

The Rangers were unable to keep up with the Angels’ momentum, ending the game 5-3.

Although this was an eventful comeback for the halos, the Angels still trail the Astros in the American League West by one game.
