Los Angeles Dodgers’ star first baseman Freddie Freeman made history and joined the 2,000-hit club on Sunday night while taking on the visiting Houston Astros. Now at 2,000 hits in his 14th season, the longtime veteran proves to still be the best bat on his team’s lineup.

Freeman leads the Dodgers in the following categories: batting average, OPS, hits, doubles, runs, stolen bases, games played, and is now tied for first in RBIs. His 97 hits are at least 20 more than the next batter’s in the Dodgers’ leaderboard (75).

In game one of the series, Freeman struggled to get the just two hits he needed to reach 2,000 as he went 0-4 at the plate, striking out twice. He went hitless in game two’s winning effort as well where he flied out, grounded out, and struck out swinging.

However, after an 0-2 start at the plate in game three, Freeman hit a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the 8th inning to cut into the Astros’ three-run lead. The double that put Freeman at 2,000 hits.

After winning the first two games of the series, the Dodgers would go on to drop the sweep opportunity and lose in extra innings of game three (6-5). However, they can hop on the I-5 or I-110 home with a series win and knowing they have a no-doubt future Hall of Famer at first base.

This achievement will make a great addition to Freeman’s already legendary career resume. The California native is a six-time all-star, NL MVP, All-MLB First Team selection, Silver Slugger winner, Gold Glove winner, NL Hank Aaron Award winner, Babe Ruth Award winner, and World Series champion with the 2021 Atlanta Braves.

Freeman is now the sixth active player to have at least 2,000 career hits and reached the milestone two weeks after the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen accomplished it himself.
