Arenado Named to Eighth All-Star Game
ST. LOUIS - Last night, the 2023 all-star starters were revealed and for the eighth time in the last nine years, Nolan Arenado was selected for the midsummer classic which will take place in Seattle this year. After being selected to five all-star games with the Colorado Rockies, this is Arenado’s third straight selection since joining the St. Louis Cardinals back in 2021.
Ever since Arenado made his debut eleven years ago in 2013, he has been one of the best all-around third basemen in the game. He has won a gold glove every year he has been in the league and on top of that has won five silver slugger awards and has finished in the top five of NL MVP voting four times throughout his career.
After a slow start to the season, Arenado has bounced back over May and June and currently has a 0.274 batting average with 16 home runs and 54 runs batted in. He will be joined in the national league infield by Freddie Freeman of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Luis Arraez from the Miami Marlins, and Orlando Arcia from the Atlanta Braves.
With the all-star break only ten games away, Arenado and the Cardinals will look to make a push towards 40 wins as they currently sit at 33-47. It has been a disappointing season for the Cardinals who were widely viewed as the favorites in the NL Central and are considered by many as the most talented team in the division. They host the New York Yankees for three games before heading to Miami to face a surprisingly good Marlins team. The Cardinals end the first half of the season on the road versus the struggling Chicago White Sox. They will look to gain some momentum and make up some ground in the NL Central before the break if it isn’t already too late.
