Angels Explode For Franchise Record 25 Runs Over Rockies
Not too long after being shut out in two games by the Dodgers, the Angels responded emphatically by scoring 25 runs and breaking their franchise record in the process.
Leading 2-0 going into the third inning, the Angels proceeded to pour on 13 runs in one frame, tying another franchise record. They started the inning in incredible fashion, hitting three home runs on just three pitches.
The Halos didn’t stop there, using a combination of walks and base hits, eventually capped by a Mickey Moniak home run, to score 10 more runs in the frame.
In the next inning, the Angels piled it on, scoring another 8 runs. Even David Fletcher, known for speed and grit but lacking in power, was able to hit his first home run of the year. In the top of the 8th, Taylor Ward scored an RBI groundout to give the Angels their record-breaking 25th run.
It was a stellar debut for new Angels infielder Eduardo Escobar, who went 2-for-4 with a walk and one RBI. Of course, each of the angels starters finished with a hit, but Escobar came across to score four times, second only to Mickey Moniak.
Since their offensive outburst, the Angels are 3-1. More importantly, Los Angeles is now a full game ahead of the Houston Astros, and now trail the Rangers by five games. The Angels are clinging to a half game lead over Toronto in the American League Wild Card race, as they try to make the postseason for the first time in over 8 years.
