Lately, it feels like with each game the Yankees somehow find a way to exceed MLB history or make their mark in some way or another. This weekend, the New York Yankees finished out a series with the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees were only able to pull out one win during the three day series. Finishing Friday, 6-1 Blue Jays, 3-2 Yankees on Saturday, and another win for the Blue Jays Sunday, 5-1. Although, it was not a a successful weekend for the Yankees as a whole, it was other news for pitcher, Gerrit Cole.

During Saturday’s game Blue Jay’s pitcher, Alek Manoah, attempted to throw off Cole’s game. Walking back to the dugout late, holding back the game. However, Manoah’s attempt failed. For the second time since 1901, according to OptaSTATS, this weekend Cole became the second pitcher to achieve 35 plus strikeouts with allowing only three runs or less, pitched more than 30 innings, had pitched zero home runs, and had a walk and hits per inning lower than one; all within only five games of a season. To add on to his remarkable weekend, Cole kept the Blue Jays from scoring all the way up until the beginning of the fifth inning on Saturday. Those five scoreless innings, lowered Cole’s earned run average to 0.79, following behind the two lowest Yankee’s ERA, Spud Chandler and Eddie Lopat.
