A Look At The New York Mets Number One Prospect
The New York Mets had a disappointing 2023 season but in 2024 they look to start over with their number one prospect leading the way.
#45 Jett Williams
Jett Williams is the Mets #1 ranked prospect for the 2024 MLB season. Williams, who is 19-years old, was drafted in the first round of the 2022 draft by the Mets.
The former first rounder is from Texas Prep where he played shortstop (SS), and in the outfield (OF).
Williams began his 2023 season at the A-level of the minor leagues and ended it at the AA-level. At the A-level the 19-year old produced more fly balls than ground balls, with a swing “grooved” for elevation.
The 19-year old stays aggressive on the basepaths with hands that were made for a SS. But because Fransisco Lindor still holds down that position for the Mets Williams could see a position change to second base.
At the A-level Williams played in 79 games, where he produced a .249 batting average (avg), scored 51 runs (R), had 65 hits (H), 12 doubles (2B), 6 triples (3B), 6 home runs (HR), 32 stolen bases (SB), and an on base plus slugging percentage (OPS) of .832.
Once promoted to the high A-level Williams played in 36 games, producing a .299 avg in 127 at-bats (AB), with 38 H, 9 2B, 7 HR, 18 runs batted in (RBI), 33 BB, 32 K, 12 SB, 25 R, and an OPS of 1.018.
In AA Williams played in 6 games, with a .227 avg in 22 AB, with 5 H, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, and 1 SB.
Jett Williams was invited to this year's Spring Training where he certainly impressed hitting, .333 avg, 1 RBI, 1 SB, and a .762 OPS.
Jett Williams has a MLB ETA for the year 2025.
