A Long Awaited Victory for Drew Maggi
13 years and 1,155 minor league games later, Drew Maggi is finally getting his shot in the big leagues. On Sunday afternoon, Maggi received the long awaited news that he was being called up to the major leagues by the Pittsburgh Pirates. After this memorable moment, Maggi thought back on all of the memories he has made in different cities. How his dream is finally becoming a reality.
Maggi, was first picked by the Pirates back in 2010 in the 15th round of the MLB Draft. The third baseman played for the Pirates organization up until 2014, where he then went as a free agent to the Los Angeles Angels minor league team in 2015. From then on, Maggi has dressed for six different baseball organizations. In 2021, Maggi had a short lived experience of the major leagues when he was placed on the active roster for the Minnesota Twins, although he did not see any action during this time.
However, this story looks like it might have a different outcome for the now, 33-year-old. Maggi will be taking Bryan Reynolds spot on the 40 man roster, as he was put on the bereavement list. The Pirates also placed, Ji-Man Choi on the injured list, giving Maggi even more of an opportunity. Even though he is not on the starting lineup, it is expected that we will see Maggi wearing #39 out on the field at some point.
